ASSIST at Horizon: the EU Research & Innovation magazine

Horizon magazine, the EU research and innovation magazine, has published the article ‘Why providing the necessary energy to end poverty need not cost the Earth', which analises European projects exemplifing that "a growing demand for better homes, transport and electricity does not necessarily mean runaway greenhouse gas emissions and worsening climate change".

In a society with a lot of people trying to decrease their energy demand as they become wealthier, there is also a large group that cannot afford to keep their homes thermal comfort along the year. Marina Varvesi, ASSIST project's coordinator, explans that there is a combination of causes leading to energy poverty. In the article, she describes ASSIST's action and the aim to train home energy advisers to offer practical help to vulnerable consumers, including low-income families and elderly or disabled people surviving on little income.
